This is a 1897 dated L.S.A. Co Ltd LE Mk1 that was converted to a Sht LE Cond II**N in 1904, the “N” denoting that the conversion was done for the Navy. The original designation is stamped on the right hand side of the butt socket with the conversion details stamped on the left hand side. It has matching numbers to the bolt & action but the barrel has been replaced with a South African produced example. The woodwork shows all the knocks and dings tat you would expect of a rifle of this age but the metalwork is in good condition which includes the replacement barrel which is clean and bright and exhibits strong rifling, a .303 gauge will not enter the muzzle. A rare rifle for the Enfield collector with a very good barrel for the shooter., complete with a contemporary original sling.
