Section 1 Rifles Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield .410 Musket (SECTION 2) SOLD

Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield .410 Musket (SECTION 2) SOLD

£595.00
sold out

The .410 Musket cartridge was approved in India in September 1927 and is basically a brass .303 cartridge which has not been necked or sized down, but remains straight cased. Although the dimensions appear to be similar, the conventional commercial .410 shells will not chamber in this musket. This musket was built from a B.S.A. Co Ltd 1917 dated Sht LE SMLE rifle.. A wooden plug was used to fill the magazine way and is finished off flush with the magazine surround of the trigger guard. The top of the block serves as a loading platform an it is secured by means of two transverse wooden pins through the fore-end. The barrel is smooth bored and is noticeably larger than the .303 when viewed from the muzzle. These muskets were manufactured at the Indian Ishapore factory from 1927 to 1950, this particular example is dated RFI 1933, it has maintained its matching numbers to the bolt, action, barrel, nose cap rear sight and woodwork. A deactivated round is included as an example, it is understood that it was used for crowd control, I certainly would not like to be the receiving end…. This is obviously one for the serious “Enfield” collector and is in excellent condition but it has no shooting value, as it is smooth bored it must be held on a shotgun certificate (Section 2 not Section 1).
